Valheim 1.0 & the Deep North: what changed for your seeds

Valheim's 1.0 release didn't just polish the game — it rebuilt the far north of every world. The region that used to be a frozen, mostly empty edge is now the Deep North: a full endgame zone with its own locations, dangers and rewards. If you're picking a world with a seed viewer, that changes what you should look for.

What the 1.0 update changed in world generation

Do old seeds still work?

Yes — a seed is still a seed. Typing the same string on 1.0 creates a world from the current generation rules, which match pre-1.0 almost everywhere except the Deep North. So: for exploring south of the frozen north, your old favorite seeds are as valid as ever; for planning a Deep North expedition, pick from fresh Valheim 1.0 seeds generated under the new rules.

How to find the Deep North on your seed

  1. Open the Valheim seed viewer and enter your seed.
  2. Look at the top edge of the map — the pale ice-blue region is the Deep North (just as the scorched red band in the far south is the Ashlands).
  3. Check the distance from spawn to the nearest Deep North coastline. A short, safe sailing route matters more than a short straight line — look for a clear ocean corridor.
  4. Compare a few candidates on our curated seeds list, where every entry shows its biome layout and boss distances.

What to look for in a 1.0 seed

With the north now worth visiting, a strong 1.0 seed has three things: a safe Meadows start, a manageable route to the first three bosses, and — new for 1.0 — a reachable Deep North: an ocean path to the ice that doesn't force you through serpent-infested open water. Our viewer draws the full 1.0 map so you can check all three in seconds — and our curated 1.0 seeds list gives you vetted worlds that already tick these boxes.
